Championship of Berkshire: Donnington Grove - 12 May 2011 ENTRY FULL

Donnington Grove estate will stage the Trilby Tour Berkshire Championship in 2011. The excellent Championship course, over-looked by the historic Donnington Castle, is acknowledged as one of the best in the area. For many years it was one of Berkshire's best kept secrets. It is kept in pristine  condition all year round with not a temporary green in sight and the new clubhouse provides a wonderful environment to relax after your round of golf.

The course is set in the undulating Berkshire countryside with wildlife in abundance. Playing at Donnington Grove is a truly great experience and offers challenging shots to even for the most accomplished golfer. It is a 'must play' course.

The Donnington Grove estate, which comprises of 550 acres of beautiful parkland, farmland and woodland, with the River Lambourn running though it, provides an ideal setting for a golf course.

About the Course

The task of designing the course was given to Dave Thomas, designer of The Belfry and one of Britain's foremost golf architects. He was assigned the task of creating a championship golf course that harmonised with the surroundings.

Dave Thomas has to be credited with creating a golf course that is both aesthetically faultless and a great challenge for the golfer. Many regard the PAR 72, 7045-yard course as the best in the region.

The two nines are very different in character; the front nine is very undulating on higher ground and has stunning views over Newbury, whilst the back nine can be described as classic parkland, with an abundance of beautiful trees and water hazards that can unnerve the bravest.

Donnington Grove has held two Euro Pro Tours in recent years and in 2004 hosted the Donnington Grove Computacenter English Challenge Open.
