BY GORDON PARKS

EVER wondered what it would be like to hack your way round a top golf course with millions of Sky TV viewers watching every slice and shank along the way?

Well now's your chance. The Trilby Tour is arriving in Scotland with the regional championships taking place at Murrayshall, near Perth, on July 28 to provide every amateur with the chance of living the dream.

It's the brainchild of Savile Row tailor William Hunt who admits a chance meeting with world No.6 Ian Poulter provided a launchpad for what's growing into a British golfing phenomenon.

Hunt said: "This whole idea was born when Ian asked me to make him a pair of trousers for The Open and we came up with the Union Jack pattern.

"When I pulled them out of the bag he asked me if I was joking. But he warmed to them and the rest is history.

"Then a lot of golf pros asked us to sponsor them and we came up with the idea of creating a tournament.

"This is all about giving every golfer the chance to experience what it's like to be a touring pro and capturing that feeling of being the best in the world."

The Trilby Tour has been a huge success on Sky and Hunt is convinced there's more than just a virtual reality to turning a weekend player into a pro.

He said: "It's all about having as much fun as possible and having grown men shaking on the first tee. We do some nasty things to them.

"Every golfer has to have a caddie and we have three players going out at the one time. You're also not allowed to play with your friends.

"This is white knuckle golf at its best. And we also provide the clothes.

"Every golfer has to be on the tee at least 20 minutes before they set off and that means there are at least 20 people watching you hit your first shot.

"We have starters who are shouting at you before a ball is hit and it's as intimidating as it gets."

Hunt has already launched several careers and he added: "Last year's winner and runner-up have turned pro and they are sponsored by Callaway.

"How many guys watch big events on TV and say they could do that. Well now's their chance to walk the walk."
